 1949 - April 4 - Monday - The Corning Leader:
 Mrs. Mary Emma Neal, 87, who had been an invalid for the past 30 years, died Sunday morning at 2 o'clock at her home, 58 Griffith Street. She had lived here for 42 years and had made many friends in the city during that time. The body has been removed to the Phillips Funeral Home where visiting hours will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held from there at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with the Rev. Robert Horton, pastor of Grace Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Coopers Plains. The daughter of John Shaw and Mary Thorpe Shaw, she was born in Humiston, Iowa, January 5, 1862. Her husband, Lafayette Neal, died February 1, 1947. She leaves four daughters, Mrs. Effie Sturgeon of Des Moines, IA., Mrs. Lewis Clark of 57 River Street, Mrs. Nettie Rikeldifer and Miss Hazel Neal, at home; a son, Everett Neal of Addison; a half-brother, Lester Thorpe of Sun Prairie, Wisc., 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
