William and Helen were married in Antrim by Rev. P. H. Hershey. 1930 - April 14 - census - Mansfield Borough - Richmond Twp.: William J. Neal, owns home, age 49, married at age 35, he and parents b. PA, proprietor - shoe store Helen P., age 40, married at age 27, b. PA, dad b. Scotland, mom b. NY J. Elizabeth, dau., age 11, b. PA 1952 - April 23 - "Mansfield Advertiser": Resident of Mansfield for more than half a century, William J. Neal passed away at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA, on Sunday, April 13, 1952, following an illness of several months. Born in Blossburg on January 1, 1881, adopted son of his grandparents, William and Elizabeth Harer Neal, Mr. Neal spent his boyhood on the farm of his grandparents near Liberty, PA. He was a graduate of the class of 1900 of the Mansfield Normal School where he was a member of the Delphie fraternity. For a period of nine years, from 1901-1910, Mr. Neal was employed in the C. H. Lugg Department Store at Coudersport and for two years by the T. W. Judge Co. in Mansfield. In 1912, he purchased the retail shoe store of Mr. Homer Kingsley, which business he continued until his retirement in 1947. For many years, he was a faithful member of the local Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher of the College Young People's Class and later of the Adult Bible Class. Mr. Neal was associated with the Tioga County, PA, Sabbath School Association which he served in the capacity of President, Secretary, and Young People's Superintendent. For the past three years he attended the Covington Baptist Church where he taught the Adult Bible Class when his health permitted. Mr. Neal has long been known in the community as a man of high integrity. Coupled with his firm belief in the Holy Scriptures as the only infallible guide for faith and practice and in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and Lord. Surviving are his widow, Helen Pollack Neal, youngest daughter of the Late Janes Pollack, Superintendent of the Fall Brook Coal Co., at Antrim, Pa, whom Mr. Neal married on August 9, 1916; one daughter, Jean Neal Manross of Wheaton, ILL; two grandchildren, Marvin and Olive Manross; two half- brothers and four half-sisters, Oliver and Maynard Schmelzle and Mrs. Allen Cox of Ogdensburg, Mrs. Dillon Stone of Canton, Mrs. Burdette Porter of Williamsport, and Mrs. Edward Lodge of Newberry, Pa. Funeral services were held at the Shaw and Robena Funeral Parlors on April 16, with the Rev. Lawrence N. Manross, P.h. d., son-in-law to the deceased officiating, assisted by the Rev. Everett Osterhaut, pastor of the Covington Baptist Church. Interment was at Union Cem. near Liberty. Pallbearers were Mr. Ronald Brace, the Rev. Glenn Dewey, Mr. William Hendricks, Mr. Samuel Martin, Mr. Francis Roupp, and Mr. Tom Willis. 1984 - Nov. 21 - Thurs. - Wellsboro Gazette: Mrs. William J. Neal Helen L. Neal, 95, of St. Augustine, Florida, formerly of Mansfield, died Friday, Nov. 16, 1984, in St. Augustine. Born July 20, 1889, at Antrim, she was a daughter of James and Annette Wells Pollock. She was a member of the Conservative Presbyterian Church, Lady Lake, Florida. Mrs. Neal graduated from the former Mansfield Normal School in 1907 and Syracuse University in 1914. She had retired as a music teacher at Mansfield State College. Mrs. Neal was a longtime organist at the United Methodist Church, Mansfield, and had taught private music lessons in the area for many years before moving to Florida in 1953. Her husband, William J. Neal, died in 1952. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Jean Chastain of St. Augustine, Florida; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Union Cemetery, Liberty Township, with The Rev. Edwin Green 111, pastor of the Roseville United Methodist Church, officiating. There was no visitation. Funeral arrangements were made by the Kuhl Funeral Home, Mansfield.
