A friend of many years pays the following tribute; "Mary Truman Smith had many fine qualities, but the first two which come to the minds of her many friends, were her gayety, and her kindness. She had a real zest for life, and her delightful sense of humor enlivened any group she was with. In time of trouble she seemed not only to console, but to really share the burden of grief. She was devoted to her family, her friends and her church, where her interest and help will be difficult to replace. A descendant of a pioneer family, her home was a center of gracious and generous hospitality, where it was always a pleasure to be. She has gone, as she had expressed the wish to go quickly, with no lingering illness . Her family and friends can not so quickly adjust themselves to their loss." 1966 - June 9 - Thurs. - Wellsboro Gazette: Well-Known Former Resident Dies Suddenly in Laguna Beach, Calif.
