Note: Marion Adelphia Wheeland Black was a daughter of George W. Wheeland and H arriet M. Ogden 1980 - Dec. 31 - Wellsboro Gazette: Robert A. Black, Sr., Liberty Mayor Dies Liberty Mayor Robert A. Black, 74, of Liberty died suddenly at his home C hristmas Day, Thursday, Dec. 25, 1980. Born in Loyalsock Township, Lycomi ng County, on July 3, 1906, he was the son of Robert H. and Jennie Brio n Black. He was the proprietor of the Black Hardware Store, Liberty for 2 0 years until is retirement in 1959. Mayor of Liberty for several years , Mr. Black had also served on the Liberty Borough Council for 25 years a nd was a Republican Committee member for the borough. He was a member o f the Liberty Lutheran Church and the Laurel Hill Game & Forestry Club. S urviving are: his wife, the former Marion Wheeland; three sons, Robert A . Black, Jr., of Big Flats, New York, George Black of Liberty, and Richar d Black of Williamsport; two brothers, Jerry W. Black and Ernest L. Black , both of Big Flats, New York; two sisters, Mrs. Edythe Tonkin of William sport and Mrs. Emma Gray of Pine City, New York; six grandchildren and se veral nieces and nephews. Friends were invited to call at the Liberty Lut heran Church Sunday, Dec. 28, from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral service a t 2 p.m. Dr. Donald R. Shover, pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Chur ch, Williamsport, officiated during the service. Burial was in Salem-Sain t Paul Cemetery, Liberty Township. The family requests that those who wis h make memorial contributions to the Tioga County Chapter of the America n Heart Association. Funeral arrangements were made by the Lewis C. Aul d Funeral Home, Blossburg. 1994 - March 23 - Wed. - Wellsboro Gazette: Marion Black, a life-long resident of Liberty, no longer lives here. Sh e is now a resident at Meadows Assisted Living Community located on the w arrensville Road.
