When the mines were working full blast there were about 2000 residents in the village; Usually there were about 170 dwellings, one store, a church, a school, sawmill, boot and shoe shop, barber shop, depot, plus 6 or 7 houses at the foot of the plane. 1890 - August 20 - Wednesday - Gazette and Bulletin, Williamsport - Ogdensburg. J. B. Stratton's Barn Burned and Four Horses in the Loss. Correspondence Gazette and Bulletin. Ogdensburg, Aug. 18. Last Sunday morning about 10 o'clock the barn of J. B. Stratton, discovered to be on fire, and before anyone could get there it was in flames. Charles Stratton, the owner of one of the teams, entered the stable with knife in hand to cut one of the horses loose but had to retreat, leaving his knife behind, and barely escaping with his own life. He was burned quite severely in the face. The agony of the poor horses writhing in the flames, sickening to look upon. The loss is estimated at $1,000 to the two parties. They had no insurance. The horses had been taken out to water but a short time before the fire occurred. It is not known how the barn became fired. 1891 - "Gazette-Bulletin", Williamsport, PA, Wed., Nov. 11, 1891; at the residence of L. H. Allen, Owego, N.Y., November 4, 1891, by Rev. R. L. Granger, Mr. John B. Stratton of Ogdensburg, and Mrs. Susie S. Keys of Marsh Hill, Pa. "The Blossburg Advertiser", Fri., Feb. 21, 1896: Marsh Hill - Mrs. John Stratton, lately removed from Ogdensburg, is suffering intensley from cancer. Following the advice of Dr. Flanagan, Monday last she went to Williamsport for consultation. In the Jan. 21, 1898 edition of the paper, she had gone to Williamsport last week to consult with Dr. Nutt concerning her arm which has long been afflicted with cancer. 1896 - "The Blossburg Advertiser", Fri., Dec. 18, 1896: In Marsh Hill news John Stratton was building a barn in Marsh Hill; his barn in Ogdensburg had burned down. It was also mentioned that his wife is doing better. 1900 - June 22 - census - McIntyre Twp.; household #281: John B. - b. May 1835 - age 65 - married 9 years - teamster Susan S. - wife - b. Aug. 1845 - 3 children 2 living - she and parents b. in NY Jos. G. Keys - step-son - b. Sept. 1877 - age 22 - single Marguerite Oaks - granddaughter - b. Jan. 1891 - age 9 - she and parents b. PA 1911 - "The Canton Independent-Sentinel", 2 Mar 1911 - John died while on a visit to SC and was brought back to Ogdensburg for burial. Most likely he was visiting his daughter, Jennie Alice and her husband, Arthur Middaugh. 1911 - February - Canton Sentinel - John Stratton, one of the oldest residents of Union, who died while on a visit to South Carolina, was brought home to Ogdensburg for burial on Feb. 22, 1911. Mr. Stratton was about 76 years of age and leaves three daughters; Mrs. Robert Lodge, Mrs. Arthur Middaugh, and Mrs. Marion Herringotn, and one son, Oscar, to mourn his loss.
