Note: Walter's birth is recorded at the Lycoming County Court house as Waldo Lanniger and that his parents were living in Yorktown and his father was a laborer. "The Wellsboro Gazette", Thurs., Nov. 3, 1966: Walter James Laninger, 64, of Wellsboro RD1, died Sunday. He was born Feburary 2, 1902, in Ellenton, the son of James and Mattie Stratton Laninger and was a veteran of WW11 and a member of Lawrenceville Fire Department. Surviving are his widow, Mildred; three sons, Raymond of Lawrenceville, Glenn of Lowman, and Leon of Ft. Benning, GA; three daughters, Mrs. Raymond Evans of Ulster RD2, Mrs. Arthur Tyler of Lawrenceville, and Mrs. Redford Covey of Elmira, N.Y.; two brothers, Henry and Eldah of Ellenton; and 19 grandchildren. Services were held from the Scureman Funeral home at 1:30, Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Thomas McCoy officiated. Burial was in Ellenton Cemetery. The Kuhl Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
