a. Note:   "Eldie" was like a hermit, never married, and lived mostly in a one room shack. He was a lumberman all his life. 1983 - July 19 - Tuesday - Williamsport Sun-Gazette: Eldar Laninger, 79, of Canton RD3, a native of McNett Twp., Lycoming County, died Monday, July 18, 1983, in Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport, following a lengthy illness. Born July 7, 1904, he was a son of James and Mattie Stratton Laninger. He had been self-employed as a lumberman and also worked for logging firms in Sullivan and Northern Tioga Counties. Mr. Laninger was an avid hunter and fisherman. His only survivors are nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Morse and Kleese's, 40 N. Center Street. Burial will be in Ellenton Cemetery in Lycoming County. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
