Note: Peter was born September, 1869, a son of Isaiah Champney and Sarah M. Dockstader, widow of Solon Dartt. Isaiah was married first to Catherine Matilda Phoenix on December 19, 1858. Catherine died February 14, 1862. He next married Sarah on February 13, 1867 in Gaines, Tioga County, PA. Isaiah was in the Civil War, serving with Battery I, PA Regt. Isaiah's parents were Van Rensler and Lucretia Tyler Champney. Lucretia was born in Montgomery County, NY, and was related to President Tyler, either a sister or cousin. Lucretia lived in Bradford County, PA. Van Rensler died 29 Jan 1877 in Union Township and his will states wife Olive as executrix, 2nd wife? Peter had a sister, Mrs. E. A. Ogden. 1899 - Sept. 8 - Friday - "Blossburg Advertiser": Isaiah Champney, a veteran of the Civil War, dropped dead at his store at the Swamp Church September 5th, at about 10 o'clock in the morning. Mr. Champney was moving his store back to Ogdensburg to his old stand, assisted by his son, Peter. They had brought one load and returned for another load and while loading he suddenly expired. The funeral was held at Ogdensburg Thursday at 2 p.m. Peter is listed in the 1910 Union Twp. census as living alone, age 39; he was born in PA, his father in PA and his mother in NY. His wife and two daughters are listed in the household of her father. 1920 - Jan. 3/6 - census - Union Twp.: Peter T. Champney, owns home - free of mortgage, age 48, b. PA, parents born NY, house carpenter. Also in the 1910 census for Liberty Twp., is a Bessie Champney, age 35, public school teacher, born in PA, her father in NY and her mother in PA. Her children listed: Floyd, age 15, born in PA; Lyman, age 13, born in NY; Josephine, age 11, born in PA; Clare, age 9, born in Oregon?; Ferris, age 6, born in PA. In the 1910 census for Gaines Twp. is Harvey Champney, age 63, born in PA, father in U.S., mother in CT, with wife Jane A., age 57, born in NY, father in U.S. and mother in NY, with children: Burton H., age 33; Caroline P., daughter-in-law, age 38, she and parents born in PA. In the 1910 census for Mansfield is Isabella Champney, age 69 with son, Gordon H., age 27, high school teacher, with granddaughter, Lillian Brown, age 31 and Lillian's children: Wellington, age 9; Lucy, age 6; Charles, age 4. In the 1900 Wyalusing, Bradford Co., PA, is Isabella, widow of Van Ransselaer, living on Church St. A family Bible states Isabella M. Wetmore married Van Rensselaer Champney on June 18, 1856 and that a Lucey E. Champney married Jacob R. Jenkins on Aug. 25, 1878, Elk, Tioga Co., PA. In "The Canton Sentinel", Thurs., Sept. 6, 1923, in the obituary for Mrs. Adah Decker of Jersey Shore, formerly of Canton, is a daughter, Mrs. J. Champney of Canton.
