Note: "The Canton Independent-Sentinel", Thurs., March 24, 1955: Pfc. Edward Lodge, whose wife, Janice, lives on Star Route, Canton, is one of 800 soldiers scheduled to take part in a tactical armored task force maneuver during the current atomic tests in Nevada. Part of the Army's Exercise Desert Rock VI, the task force will watch an atomic blast from trenches and tanks. After the burst, the troops and tanks will move as near to Ground Zero as is safely feasible. Lodge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Lodge, Grover, is regularly stationed at Camp Irwin, Calif., with the 378th Ordinance Company as a tank mechanic. He entered the Army in February, 1954 and completed basic training at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Lodge was graduated from Canton High School. In the April 28, 1955 edition, is a notation that he did not participate in the maneuver because of injuries to his arm. (thank goodness) "Williamsport Sun-Gazette", Mon., July 3, 2000: Edward Roy Lodge, 66, of Canton, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at home. Retiring in 1995, he was employed by the Schrader-Bellows factory. He previously was employed by the former Grover Milk Plant for over 30 years. He was a member of the Grover Church of Christ. He was a member of William B. Wilson Post 572, American Legion, Blossburg. He was a graduate of Canton High School. He enjoyed the outdoors and working in his yard. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the East Coast. Born November 15, 1933, in Grover, He was a son of the late Russell Lodge and D. Leah McCraken Lodge Maroney. Surving are a son, Rusty of Liberty; two daughters, Louann Youmans of Blossburg and MariannKehres of Liberty; six grandchildren, Melissa and Derek Youmans, Marica and Holden Lodge and Kayla and Dillon Kehres; and a great grandson, Tyler. He is preceeded in death by his wife, Janice; an infant sister, Edna; two brothers, John and Richard Lodge; and a sister, Barbara Vollmer. The funeral will be at noon Wednesday at Pepper's, Springbrook Drive, with the Rev. Allen Hulslander officiating. Interment will be in Grover Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m to noon Wednesday.
