Note:   1895 - Tioga County Court birth record of Jennie Champney, born Ogdensburg; dad's occupation is farmer. 1920 - Marriage license #12205, Bradford Co., Jennie states that her father, Peter, was born in Union Twp. and lives in Ogdensburg and is a carpenter; that her mother was born in Union Twp. and lives in Ogdensburg. Jennie and Paul were married by Rev. T. D. Zimmerman. "The Canton Sentinel", Jan. 29, 1920 issue announced their marriage taking place at the bride's sister's home, Mrs. Lynn Rockwell. Obituary, "The Canton Independent-Sentinel", Thurs., July 3, 1980: AREA WOMAN DIES IN TRAILER FIRE; Mrs. Jennie freeman of Canton RD2 lost her life when fire destroyed the trailer home of her daughter, Mrs. Shirley Swain, Wednesday, June 25. She was pronounced dead by Deputy Coroner Eugene Farr at 5:00 p.m. Firemen responded to an alarm turned in at 3:40 p.m. by Glen Trick, a neighbor. The trailer was located in a trailer court on the edge of Canton Borough. It was reported that Mrs. Freeman was escorted from the burning trailer by her grandson, Michael Swain, but returned to the trailer, despite protests from her grandson, in an attempt to save some personal items. According to one source, there were three youths in the trailer with Mrs. Freeman when the fire broke out, her grandson, Michael, granddaughter Karen and Charles Tuning. No official word has been released on the cause of the fire. Mrs. Jennie V. Freeman, age 85, of Canton RD2, died at her home Wednesday, June 25, 1980. Born May 21, 1895 in Ogdensburg, the daughter of Etta Herman Champney, she was a member of the Canton Church of Christ Disciples. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Gordon Reese, Blossburg, and Mrs. Shirley Swain with whom she lived; a son, Earl H. Freeman, Baltimore, MD; a sister, Mrs. George (Sadie) Tarr, Canton; seven grandchildren a great granddaughter and a niece. Her husband, Paul J. Freeman, died Aug. 7, 1963. Services were held Saturday at 11:00 a.m, at the Morse-Kleese Funeral Home, Canton, with the Rev. Clarke J. Redmond officiating. Interment was in Grover Cemetery. Pallbearers were; Robert White, George Tarr, Bruce Vargason, Elmo Vermilya, Lloyd Shadduck, Woods McNett.
