Note: 2007 - Feb. 17 - The Daily & Sunday Review: On the afternoon of Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, Marcella Marie Stickler of Roaring Branch, Pa., passed away quietly at the Green Home in Wellsboro, Pa. She was 97 years of age. Born in Roaring Branch on June 30, 1909, she was the daughter of Ray and Nina Bunn Stickler. She graduated from Canton high School with the Class of 1927. While attending Mansfield College, Marcella was employed as a teacher at the Joe Hill School, as well as other area schools. She operated nursery schools at both Mansfield, Pa, and Williamsport, Pa., and later was a professor of elementary education at Bloomsburg University as well as Lock Haven University. During the summer of 1955, Miss Stickler was the manager of a park at Estes Park, Colo. She retired from Lock Haven University with an associate doctorate degree in the early 1970's. For many years, Marcella would travel during the winter. She enjoyed visiting Spain, Greece, Hawaii and Florida. Marcella had a summer home at Lake Ondawa in Big Pond. Of great importance to Marcella was her teaching and enjoying the company of children. Marcella is survived by a sister, Marguerite Leonard of Roaring Branch, Pa.; nephews, Allyn (and Ada) Leonard of Roaring Branch, Byron (and Sylvia) Leonard of Wellsboro, Tom (and Sue) Leonard of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa., and Ray Stickler of Milwaukee, Wis.; a niece, June (and David) Hottenstein, of New Albany, Pa.; 16 great-nieces and nephews; and 20 great-great nieces and nephews. Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Byron Stickler; and sister Margaret (who passed away when she was 8 years old). Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, at the Morse and Kleese Funeral Home, 40 N. Center St., Canton. Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. with the Rev. David B. Morris officiating. Interment will be in Roaring Branch Cemetery.
