Note: Henry left his parent's home in Ogdensburg to find his place in the world or maybe just to visit Wolfram relatives in WI. Whatever the reason, he resided in Sharon with his first wife, Sophia. About 1890 he and Sophia moved to Longmont, CO. It is not known what took him to Longmont but he remained there the rest of his life. According to his obituary and other items in Longmont newspapers, he was a "pillar" of the community. He worked as a carpenter and contractor and then he obtained a job at the Empson Canning factory in Longmont as a laborer and because of his leadership abilities, hard work, and integrity, he eventually became superintendent of the local plant and then he was promoted to superintendent of all the Empson Canning plants. Since Henry was raised in a household that dealt in produce for a living, it was only natural that he would do good in a business of the same category. The plant was founded by J. H. Empson and Daughter in 1887. It canned tomatoes, asparagus, beets, pumpkins, beans, etc., but it was the sugar peas that made Empson Canning factory nationally famous. Special seed was developed by Luther Burbank himself and the factory provided the seeds to farmers. The local farmers had a yearly income from peas plus the factory sold back the pea vines to the farmers as a high protein cattle feed. 1863 - May 30 - birth of Henry. His father had finalized a purchase of land in Green Twp., Clinton Co., PA in October of 1863 so probably Henry was born in Green Twp. Sophia's parents were Lewis Richter and Margaret Hunsinger. Their farm was located across from the North Sharon Cemetery. It is very likely that Sophia was born on their farm. Sophia's sister, Anna Christine, married Henry Georg Wolfram who was a son of Henry and Hannah Canis Wolfram. 1887 - Henry and his bride, Sophia, made a trip back to Ogdensburg to visit his family 1893 - Dec. 22 - Friday - "The Blossburg Advertiser": Henry Canis of Longmont, Colorado, has made and sent to his father, Frederic Canis, of Union, in this county, a cane made of horn consisting of 84 pieces, elegantly and mechanically put together. It required the horns of 42 head of cattle, and is a unique souvenir. 1894 - Henry made his second visit to his family in Ogdensburg. 1894 - Zell was elected Sergt. at Arms of the Seventh Regiment of the Veteran Legion. 1898 - June 3 - issue date of Longmont, CO, newspaper: At Sharon, Wisconsin, Friday, May 27, 1898, Sophia, wife of H. The remains were interred beside a son, who died before Mr. and Mrs. Canis came to Colorado. Her husband and one little son survive her. 1900 - Feb. 16 - Henry made a surprise visit to his parents. 1900 - April 6 - Marriage announcement in "Longmont Ledger": In Boulder, Wednesday, April 4, 1900, by Judge J.
