 News From Union
 A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Francis Canis on the 21st. Mrs. Canis is a granddaughter of the late Sheriff Irwin.
  1930 - April 23 - census - Arnot Odgen Hospital - Elmira City:
 Marion Canis, age 18, single, she and parents b. PA, student nurse
  1937 - Marriage book 41, page 222 - Bradford County Court - Towanda, PA:
 Bride - Marian E. Canis, a nurse, born in Ogdensburg, living in Elmira, age 25; father was Francis Canis who was born in Tioga Co., PA, is a carpenter living in Canton; mother was Bessie Treat who was born in Tioga Co., PA, and living in Canton. Marian and Fred were married by Rev. Albert Treckett at the Methodist Episcopal Church.
 Groom - Fred W. LaRue, mechanic, born in Tompkins Co., NY, living in Elmira, age 34; father was Alvin? C. LaRue who was born in Tompkins Co., deceased; mother was Carrie Bogart who was born in Tompkins Co., deceased.
  1937 - June 10 - Thurs. - "The Canton Sentinel":
 Miss Marion E. Canis, of Elmira, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Canis of Canton and Fred W. LaRue, of Corning, NY, were married Sunday afternoon in the Methodist Church, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Albert Trickett before an alter of Garden flowers. Mrs. Gordon Stover played the nuptial music.
 The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of blue lace with matching accessories. Her bouquet was white rosebuds and lilies of the valley. The bridesmaid, Miss Elberta Holt, of Elmira, wore pink lace and carried a colonial bouquet. Clifford Baldwin, of Elmira, was best man.
 A reception was held by the bride's parents following the ceremony and later the couple left for a trip to Washington and Atlantic City. They will be at home after June 14 at 136 Wall St., Corning. Mrs. LaRue was graduated from Canton high School and the Arnot-Ogden School of Nurses.
 Pre-nuptial events were a shower given by Miss Elberta Holt and Mrs. V. E. Dahistrum of Elmira and a bridge party at the Wood Tea Room by the Arnot Ogden class of 32.
  1957 - March 14 - Thurs. - "The Canton Independent-Sentinel":
 Fred W. LaRue, 54, of Mansfield, formerly of Canton, passed away suddenly of a heart attack on Saturday, March 9, 1957. He was proprietor of the Western Auto Store in Mansfield; a member of the Mansfield Methodist Church, Mansfield Businessmen's Association, Canton Lodge of Masons and the Macabees.
 He was survived by wife Mrs. Marion Canis LaRue, formerly of Canton and Elmira; brothers Charles Larue of Ithaca and Roger of Ludlowville, NY.
 The body was at Shaw and Robena Funeral Home, Mansfield. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., the Rev. Donald Cronk officiating. Burial was at Spencer, NY.
  1978 - Nov. 29 - Wed. - Wellsboro Gazette:
 Leon L. Shaw, 77, RD3, Mansfield, died Tuesday, November 28, 1978, at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. Born September 19, 1901 in Wellsboro, the son of Thomas and Gertrude Powlison Shaw. He was retired, the former owner and operator of the Western Auto Associate Store, Mansfield. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mansfield; Friendship Lodge No. 247 F&AM, Mansfield; Zebulun Royal Arch Chapter No. 296, Mansfield. He is survived by his wife Marion Canis Shaw, RD3 Mansfield, step-mother Mrs. Lana Shaw, Nauvoo, 2 daughters, Mrs. John (Wilma) Taylor, York, and Mrs. James (Sandra) Kase, Williamsport; one brother, Erwin Shaw, Wellsboro; step-brother, Roy Creeley, Mansfield; 6 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Tussey Funeral Home, Wellsboro, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Funeral services will be held there on Friday at 11 a.m. with The Reverand David Weaver, his pastor, officiating. Burial in Wellsboro Cemetery. Friendship Lodge No. 247 F&AM will conduct services Thursday at 8 p.m. The family will provide flowers. Friends may contribute to the American Heart Association.
  1981 - "The Canton Independent-Sentinel" - Mrs. Marion Canis Shaw, age 70, of Mansfield RD3, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1981, in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. Her husband, Leon L. Shaw, died in 1978. Born at Ogdensburg on Oct. 21, 1911, she was the daughter of Francis S. and Bessie M. Treat Canis. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mansfield. Mrs. Shaw and her husband had formerly owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Mansfield. She was a registered nurse. Mrs. Shaw graduated from Arnot-Ogden Hospital School of Nursing, Elmira, in 1932. She was a member of Canton Chapter 71, Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Sandra Krause, Williamsport, Mrs. Wilma Taylor, of York; a brother, Elwin Canis, of Elmira, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Friday at Tussey-Mosher's, Wellsboro, with the Rev. David Weaver, her pastor, officiating. Burial was in Wellsboro Cemetery.
