Note: 1945 - June 26 - Wedding announcement in "Longmont Times": James Lewis Canis, electricians's mate first class in the navy, and son of Mrs. Inez Canis of Brighton, formerly of Longmont, claimed Miss Margie Graves, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Graves of Brighton, as his bride in a ceremony Sunday, it was announced today. Rev. E. G. Froyd performed the ceremony in the Presbyterian manse. Mrs. Froyd provided the music. The bride wore a green wool suit with white accessories and a corsage of pink roses and gardenias. Only immediate relatives of the couple attended the wedding and reception which followed in the Graves home. The bride, a Brighton high school graduate, has been employed as secretary to an insurance agent. The bridegroom, grandson of Mrs. Zella Canis of Longmont, also graduated from Brighton high school. He attended Colorado State college at Fort Collins for a year before entering service in September, 1942. He has been serving on a mine sweeper in the English channel for 14 months. He will report to Denver in July for reassignment. 1998 - Oct 19 - Obituary from "Longmont Times": Margie Julia Canis, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at the Life Care Center in Longmont. She was 74. Ms. Canis was born Oct. 18, 1923, to William R. and Julia Graves in Brighton. She moved to Boulder from Sterling in 1961. She worked as a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William Graves. Mrs. Canis is survived by her husband, James L. Canis, of Boulder; daughters Christine Bullock of Boulder and Stephanie Stout of Eaton, Colo.; sisters, Dorothy McCauley of Brighton and Alice Coffey of Texas; and grandchildren Kelli Bullock, James "Scooter" Stout and Cody Stout. No services are scheduled. Cremation will be held at the Howe Mortuary and Crematory in Longmont. 2002 - phone book address: James L. Canis - 3350 30th St., Boulder 2003 - June 19 - Daily Camera - Boulder, CO: Feb. 16, 1923-June 17, 2003 - James Lewis Canis of Boulder, formerly of Longmont, died of natural causes on Tuesday June 17, 2003, in Boulder. He was 80. The son of Frank H. Canis and Inez Oviatt Canis, he was born on Feb. 16, 1923, in Brighton. He served in the Navy aboard a minesweeper in World War 11. Mr. Canis worked as an electrical engineer for Public Service Company of Colorado, retiring in 1986 after 38 years with the company. He moved to Boulder in 1960. Survivors include two daughters, Christine Bullock of Boulder and Stephanie Stout of Eaton, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife. No services are planned.
