Notes
a. Note:   The earliest record of Francis Austin states that he married Polly Talman, daughter of James Talman, 30 November 1811, in Richmond, VA, in Hustings Court. According to census records, they were both born in Virginia. They moved to Ohio County, KY after 1811, along with the parents of Mary "Polly." Francis Austin owned 175 acres along Rough River in Ohio County and in 1846-1850 was taxed for 141 acres on Sandy Fork in Daviess County. The Talmans (or Tolmans) had two other daughters - Sally Ann who married John Courtland on October 22, 1829, and Patsey who married Jacob Wood on December 23, 1827. James Tolman was in the 1830 Ohio County census. There were no Talmans or Tolmans in the 1840 census in either Ohio or Daviess County.
According to census records from 1820, 1830 and 1840 Francis and Mary had at least 12 children - 6 sons born before 1830 and 3 daughters born before 1830 - and 3 children born after 1830.
Francis requests in his will that his son Henry keep and support Marion and Lucy, and granddaughter Licidious. There is no indication who Licidious' parents are. Francis and Mary were married in 1811 and their first child, James Madison, was born in 1817. There was not another child until 1826. Both gaps are possible but somewhat strange. There was a Philemon (or Philner) in Ohio County who married Mabel Marletts April 27, 1837 and may have been a son of Francis and Mary. Philemon died in 1839. They may have left a child which Mary and Francis raised. Licidious appears in the 1850 census in Mary's family. There is a record in McLean County of a Lycidias, b. abt. 1839, marrying Allen Crabtree, November 5, 1854, at the home of W. H. Austin. They appear in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Daviess Co. census books, and Allen is in the 1900 Census. According to the Old Macedonia Cemetery record, Crabtree, Lucidious, wife A.M. was born March 3, 1843 and died October 9, 1890. I believe a more likely date of birth would be 1838 or 1839.
