He also operated a Texaco filling station adjacent to the family home which still stands in Warner,Okla.He was short in stature and wore a mustache. He was tough as nails, but always spoke softly. Daughter Faye recalls him driving prisoners to the Muskogee courts/jail handcuffed to her whileshe drove. The family also operated a boarding house and Mattie Jane (wife) was an excellent cook. "Sam remembers here buttermilk biscuits as fantastic." Husband of Mattie Jane Winfrey.
