BRYAN, LEWIS BRYAN 1797: The name Mary Hard, wife of William Bush, as copied in 1885 from the old chart made by Isaac Bush, Jr. in 1797, was an error. A crack formed from a fold in the chart ran across the last letter of Mary's name. Diligent search has uncovered no one named Hard in Virginia or North Carolina. Recently a strong magnifying glass shows on the original that the name was written Hand and interpreted Hard. [EWDuff]
