JOHN BUSH of Granville County, South Carolina, planter, to NATHAN WILLIAMS, Johnston County, 45 pounds proclamation money, 159 acres in Johnston County formerly called Craven County on a branch of Mill Creek the said Branch formerly called a creek, beginning at a White Oak running South 35 poles, East 200 poles to a Pine: South 60 degrees West to a blazed Oak at the Branch in the line: along a line of blazed tree down the branch to a Gum on the Creek: down the course of said creek to first stake ...being the lower part of a tract granted to JAMES SIMONS by his Majesties patent date March 18, 1741 and deeded from said SIMMONS to WILLIAM BUSH February 14, 1746 and said WILLIAM BUSH being deceased the above said land descended to EDWARD BUSH the oldest son of said BUSH and he being deceased the same (land) descended to JOHN BUSH. Witnesses: DAVID LEE, RICHARD HILL, and EZEKIEL WILLIAMS. 1770: Johnson County Record of Deeds & Grants, 1759-1771 C.056 40001 Vol 1, pp 139-141 BUSH - WILLIAMS } This indenture made third day of April in the ninth year of the reign of our Souverign Lord George the Third and in the year of our Lord Christ One thousand Seven hundred and Seventy Between John Bush of the County of Granville in South Carolina Planter of the one part and Nathan Williams of Johnston County of the other part witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of forty five pounds proclamation money to me in hand paid by Nathan Williams the rightful Heir of J. Williams and John Bush to us known thereto. I have bargained and sold and by these presents do make and unto the said Nathan Williams a certain tract upon said tract of land lying now being in Johnston County formerly called Chowan County on a branch of a Mill Creek the said branch formerly called a creek Beginning at a White Oak S35E250 poles to a place thence 560W to a Blazed Oak at the branch in the line then along a line of blazed land down the branch to a Gum in the creek then down the course of said Creek to the first station containing one hundred and fifty nine acres much the same more or less being the lower tract of a tract of land bequeathed to Isaac Simmons by his Majesties ___ carrying date the 18 day of March One thousand Seven hundred and Forty one. and deeded from the above said deed Simmons to William Bush Feby 14 in year 1745 and the above said William Bush being deceased the above said land entrusted to Edward Bush the eldest son of said Bush and him being deceased the same descended John Bush the above bargained property unto the said Nathan Williams his Heirs and assigns forever. April the 4th 1802 I John Bush of the State of South Carolina and District of Barnwell Planter, being very sick & weak of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks begiven to God, therefore calling to mind the mortality of the body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, that is to say first and principally I would that my debts and funeral charges should be paid and discharged, Item I would that my beloved Wife Mary Bush shall have and enjoy my plantation with all my other property during her Widowhood or untill my Youngest Child may come to lawfull age, In case she should marry, I leave to the discretion of my Executors to let it remain with her or take if from her as he or they may see a prospect of waste or improvement, Item I give and bequeath all my land and plantation to be equally divided among all my Sons at the death or marriage of their Mother, Item I give and bequeath all my other property of every specie to be equally divided among all my Sons and Daughters when the youngest come of age, and lastly I appoint constitute and ordain my trusty and beloved friends Isaac Bush and Thomas Newman as to be my Executors to this my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the date and year above written. his John + Bush (seal) mark In presence of William Turner Joseph + Wheeler Jonas Griffin (South Carolina Department of Archives and History, Barnwell Co.
