While these Memoirs are not a matter of record, the original copy is in Barnwell, SC and are alluded to in Salley's History of Orangeburg Co., SC "Mary, a daughter of Barlett Brown, married James Stringer and they moved to Burke County, GA. [National Genealogical Society - 1953 ] 1831: South Carolina, Barnwell County Deed Bk. U, Page 272 BNN 216 SC Archives Whereas in the lifetime of the said William D. Martin in on or about the Second day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty one being purchaser of a Lot in the Village of Barnwell now designated by a plat of the place of the Village aforesaid by Henry Thurston as Lot No. 18 which said lot which the Commissioner in Equity on the day and in the year last mentioned by an Order of the Court of Equity made in the case of Joseph ___ Court in Equity against John Rickenbaker and others and entered in Commissioners Book at Barnwell as sold to a William D. Martin for the sum of three Dollars & fifty cents and the purchase money paid. And whereas the said William D. Martin afterwards and before his death directed the said Commissioner to make title to Mrs. Elizabeth Brown for the Lot so purchased by him, but before the sale of said Lot was executed the said William D. Martin ended his life And whereas at February Term one thousand eight hundred and thirty four she the aforesaid the said Elizabeth Brown presented herself to the Honorable Court of Equity praying that good and sufficient title to the said Land should be ordered to be made to her. And where upon the reading of said petition and on motion of E. Ballinger therefore was ordered for reference and at February Court one thousand eight hundred and thirty five said date having been given to the Administrator & death of the said William D. Martin and on hearing the report of the Commissioner, it was ordered that the prayer of the petition be granted and that the Commissioner do make title in due form to the said Elizabeth Brown for the Lot No. 18 described in the petition. Now know all men by these presents that I Gasper J. Trotti as Commissioner of the Court of Equity at Barnwell under and by virtue of the said Decretal order and in consideration of the said sum of three Dollars & fifty cents paid by the said William D. Martin the receipt is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and situated and by these forms unto doth grant bargain sell and release unto Mrs. Elizabeth Brown her heirs and assigns all that Lot of Land in the Village of Barnwell know and designated as Lot No. (18) Eighteen by a plat of the plans of the Village of record in the office of the Ordinary of Barnwell together with all and singular the rights, hereditaments, members, and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining and the reversion and reversions and remainders rents issues and profits thereof And also the Estate right title junctures Dower possession property benefit claim and demand whatsoever both at Law and in Equity of all the parties to the Suit aforesaid and of all other persons rightfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof by from or under them or either of them To Have and to Hold the said Lot of Land with the hereditaments, privileges and appurtenances unto the said Elizabeth Brown her heirs and assigns to her and her only right use benefit and behoof forever In Witness whereof the said Gasper J. Trotti as Commissioner of the said Court under and by virtue of the said Decree hath hereunto set his hand and seal this seventh day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty six.
