a. Note:   Will of Reuben Green: In the name of God. Amen, I Reuben Green of the State of South Carolina Barnwell Dst. being in rather a feeble condition of body, though at the same time being in prossession of all my mental faculties, such as sound memory, Judgement &c., and knowing that it is appointed for man once to die & in view of that melancholy change do make & ordain this to be my last Will and Testament In the first place, I desire that all my just debts be paid out of my Estate, Secondly as Four of my children (to wit) William J Green, Burril Green, Ruben B Green, and Elizabeth Broom have heretofore received their just & equal portion of my real Estate (Land) from me, I therefore wish & desire that all my land of which1 am possessed be divided among the rest of my children (viz) John. R. Green Candace Bates & Greenville Green in the following manner, -First of the Land- To my Daughter Candace Bates I will & Bequeath and Entail unto her all the time of her natural life and afterwards to the surviving heirs of her body a certain tract of land containing one Hundred and fifty acres adjoining lands on which I now live and adjoining Sarah Weathersbee and John Tylor, Part of said tract was originally granted to Red and is known as the Red tract and on which-my Daughter Candace Bates now Resides, which I will to her.. for good & use and Benefit her lifetime & afterwards to her children, and never to be in the power of Thomas Bates nor subject to his debts & contract,- Secondly of the Land---The remaining portion of my land---being as I suppose about six hundred and fifty acres more or lefs and it being the tract on which I now reside, I give & Bequeath unto my two sons John R. Green and Greenville Green in the following manner, I wish this tract on which I live to be divided into two parts in the following which manner, John R Green to have Two Hundred & twenty acres taken from that part of the tract adjoing lands of Joseph Tylor including Ten acres in the Swamp and the Remainder to mv Son Greenville Green---It being the tract whereon I now live. The Remainder of my property consisting of negroes Stock, Furniture & Plantation tools I wish sold at public auction to the highe'st bidder one years credit and the moneys arising therefrom to be equally divided among all my Children except Candance Bates, who I wish to receive Twenty five Dollars surplus over & above her natural or equal share, after she has received said amount of Twenty five Dollars then the remainder to be equally divided among all of my Heirs (namely) William J Green Ruben B Green, Elizabeth Broom, John R. Green and Burrel Green, Candace Bates and Greenville Green Should any of the above named children die without isssue or children their portion to be equally divided among the surviving Heirs or parties. I give to my son in Law Reuben Weathersbee five Dollars, to him & his heirs forever. Lastly I constitute nominate and appoint my Three sons (viz.) Reuben B. Green John R. Green & Greenville Green as my Lawful Executors to this my Last Will& Testament, hereby disannulling all wills by me heretofore made, In witness whereof I hereunto subscribe my name and affix my seal, In the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty seven and on the 17th day of July .
