County Court Clerk''s Office Will Book - Vol. II May 1823 - June 1842 (Page 177) In the name of God Amen! I Drury Scruggs of the County of Sumner and State of Tennessee being in sound mind and memory, but feeble in body, have thought proper to make and ordain this my last Will and Testament to dispose of the property that it hath been pleased God to bless me with in the following manner to wit: Item 1st: My will and desire is that all my just debts shall be paid. Item 2nd: My will and desire is that all my land shall be sold on a credit of one, two and three years in equal installments and all the balance of my property to be sold on a credit of twelve months except my servant BOB and the money when collected to be equally divided among three of my children, that is to say: Drury Scruggs, Gross Scruggs and Elizabeth Hodby, except seventy-five dollars I give to my grandson Felix Nuckles. I say to them and their heirs forever, after paying all my just debts and lawful expenses. Item 3rd: My will and desire is that my before named servant BOB after my death shall be entirely FREE to go where he pleases and be as free as other free men of color for meritorious services rendered me. Item 4th: And last I do nominate and appoint my two friends Enoch P. Connell and Isaac Walton my Executors to this my last Will and Testament and I do disannul and revoke all wills and parts of wills and this only do I claim to be my last Will and Testament.
