They built a large home, later owned by Vetnor Shanklin and the buildingcost got them deeply in debt. They sold their farm to James Henderson and moved to TN in 1806 or 1808. Tradition says they moved to Eastern TN and had alarge family Census 1790 Greenbrier, 1820 Lincoln Co TN page 226, 1840 Lincoln Co TN page 26, 1850 there are no Maddys in Lincoln Co TN or in Loudon Co.The following is from a document owned by a descendant When William Maddy moved his family to Powells Valley, where Tazewell, Clairbourne Co TN was foundedhe bought land and built a two story house. This being quite a structure inthose days. He brought his money from Virginia in silver and kept it in a strong chest. It took six slaves to carry the chest of silver into the house. Apair of twin girls, Lucinda and Julia, were born in this house shortly afterward. They looked so much alike, Lizzie tied different colored ribbons on themto tell them apart. When those twins were 12 years old the family moved to Sweetwater Valley where land had recently been opened to settle.
