He helped his Mom at home after all the other kids had left home, and his Dad John Walter Brookbank was a philanderer, and roamed the country and was very seldom at home Rosene said that one night she was walking to Green Castle, and she heard these heavy boots walking and she knew who it was, it was Johnny in his big old overshoes, and he caught up with her and said do you want to go to the dance tonight, and she said yes I do, and that started their dating ritual and dated for quite a well. Chris Dena had Diabetes very bad, and later died of it, she had to have help at home so Johnny since he knew Rosene he hired her to help Chris Dena around the house, I understand that Chris Dena resented her and was jealous of Johnny's attentions toward Rosene, as Chris Dena got worse and she knew she was dying she told Rosene that she liked her very much and apoligized for not liking her, well Chris Dena died. Johnny made their living by working at a Mr. Amick's saw mill in Novinger, Mo. Rosene said that one night she was walking to Green Castle, and she heard these heavy boots walking and she knew who it was, it was Johnny in his big old overshoes, and he caught up with her and said do you want to go to the dance tonight, and she said yes I do, and that started their dating ritual and dated for quite a well. After his Mother died they decided to enter into a commom law marriage, so in 1940 they started out life at Green Castle, Mo., after awhile they moved to Gibbs, Mo. and Johnny worked for a Mr. J.V. Hanks who was a auctioneer and a farmer, He bought a Motorcycle with a sidecar, which they rode every where they went. All their furniture was homemade by Johnny. In 1941 when Rosene was going to have their first child, they outgrew the motorcycle so he traded it for a 1 seated Model T. In 1942 when Mary Louise was born they moved to Novinger, Mo., to work on Twy Deers farm, and Louise started to School there. In 1945 another child was born, Helen Marie, in 1947 they moved to Bear Creek, by Brashear, Mo, on another Twy Deer farm. In 1949 they moved to Sperry, Mo. to another Twy Deer farm, and then to Ted Huffman's farm where he worked on a dairy farm, by 1950 they moved to Roy Lewis's farm where he was a farm hand there, and then onto Ralph Owen's dairy, where they stayed only briefly while they fixed up a place to live on land they bought in the Morelock area North of Green Castle, Mo., for $1,000, of which he had saved up all but $38, of which he borrowed from Rosene's father Reuben Williams, and he paid it back in 1 week. They lived there in a 3 room house, onto which later they built a bedroom and a porch. Johnny worked for the Spring Creek Ranch until he retired, as a farm hand, Rosene worked as a housekeeper for them also. They raised 2 daughters very well here, had 4 hugh gardens of which provided almost all their food for their household.. The girls went to School at the Morelock SchoolHouse which was about 1 mile from their home, until Helen was in the 4th grade and then the Morelock closed down and consolidated into Novinger School, in Novinger, Mo.
