a. Note:   Information Source: son. went to work on farms summers at age 10 to help suppoer family. Some places lived were Machias,Calais,Levant,Hermon,Greenvillle,Hampden,Newburg and Levant again. . Then worked at a Quarry in (VinalHaven?) loading cobblestone into barges for shipping. Worked on different farms in Etna Carmel area from age ten and at the dowel mill in Newport. After greduating from eigth gradein Greenville he went to work in the woods for Great Northern. At age 17 went with two other boys to VinalHaven to cut pulp. Had to work in cold sea water and caught cold or flu that lasted all summer. Worked for a time for the Maine Central Railroad as member of the section crew from Hermon to Carmel. Then worked in Waterville for MCRR and lived in an old rail passenger car.Fought a large forest fire about this time near Indian Pond in back of Squaw MMountain in Greenville,Me. Worked at Plywood Plant in Greenville and for Great Northern Paper cutting wood and driving truck delivering gas and oil to operations in the Greenville area. Worked building Max Hilton's mansion in Greenville. Was in the combat engineers during world war 2 in Germany. While in Army was at Hartford Ct. durring the Circus fire, Oscar was written up in the Army paper Stars and Stripes for saving several young chidren. After WW2 returned to Greenville working for Great Northern. Moved to Hampden in 1947 and operated a dairy farm there while driving school bus and doing janitoral work for Hampden school dept. Retired from Bangor State Hospital maintance dept.
