Notes
a. Note:   Born on Dickson Road, Franklin, NJ. He was raised and attended schoo ls in the north New Jersey area, moving to Warwick, New York as a teen ager. He was the outwardly fav ored [sickly/asthmatic?] child which tended to cause resentment among t he younger children. As an observation, when shopping for clothes, Wally w ould be the child to take but clothing would be for Frank, this even exten ded to automobiles as Wally and his father shopped for a Model T [Wally be lieving it would be his] but car was purchased and given to Frank. This fa voritism may account for his reticence in later years and could be a cau se of his inability to maintain a home for his own family. When the fami ly moved to New York the school would not accept his NJ English credits a nd rather than repeat those courses he left school. He worked at a conve nt in Warwick while living with his parents on Orchard Street in Warwic k, and for a while for Stanley Phillips at Northeasten Daries. When this d airy failed, Stanley Phillips put him in touch with Merle Greene and he le ft Warwick for a short time to work in Carmel, NY at Stoneleigh Farms wi th Merle Greene. This employment required living in a barracks (a major di slike) and associating with "drunks and thieves". Someone stole his Mod el T Ford and it was later found in a ditch several miles away. He stay ed there for "two paychecks" cashed the first at a local bar which "fir st required the purchase of a beer, its probably still there" and return ed home with the last paycheck which he gave to his mother to deposi t. He courted and was later married to Irene Phillips of the same street ( forth houses in from Main Street but diagonally across from the Ward hom e. They began married life in an apartment in Frank Ward Sr's home (Betty 's previous bedroom). Their eldest daughter Frances was born at this Orcha rd Street address. They then moved onto the Wisner farm as a tenent farme r, living in a small cape house on Iron Forge Road that was built for the m. Frank was partial to "The best team of horses around, two large blacks ". Frank III was born here as was their daughter Marjorie. Frank and Ire ne began farming for themselves at the Minniman Farm in Sugar Loaf New Yo rk (this was most likely facilitated by Ira Fitzgerald (a local "cattle de aler"). This farm was not productive and they soon moved to the Van Ett en Farm in Port Jervis, New York. They farmed here until economic revers es caused the lose of equipment, cattle and the farm's lease (owned by Arc hibald Woodruff). This was the summer of 1954. Daughters Alice, Virginia a nd Sharon were born at the Van Etten Farm. Steven was born in Doctors Sunn yside Hospital in Port Jervis, O.C. NY. Following the loss of the "farm" t hey lived in Finchville NY (Meyer's Farm/owned by Teplitz) for two year s. Then with help from Betty Ward purchased a small house on route 209, 1 /2 mile west of Westbrookville, NY (lost this within two years) and then m oved to a large tenant house owned by the Peterson's on their farm in Bull ville, NY (1 mile in from the five corners on Lybolt Rd.) Steven was bo rn while family was living here. After three years at this address they pu rchased (contract between Irene, Frank Jr., Frances and the Clark Famil y) a house in South Centerville, NY. Soon after Irene and Frank seperate d, Frank Jr. staying at South Centerville. Frank III purchased this hou se in 1962, and soon after renovated it to a two family plus effiency. Fra nk Jr's. apartment was in an upper wing of this house. Frank Jr. was emplo yed by the Middletown State Hospital as a farmer and then later as a plumb er [the State had closed the Dairy] following his cessation of independe nt farming He retired from this position when 66 1/2 years of age on 26 Ju l. 1979.
