Notes
a. Note:   James Marion was born in Tennessee and married Susan Ozellah Sharp, December 24, 1874, in Loudon County, Tennessee. They moved to Bell County Texas around 1878 in a covered wagon. His first wife, Susan, died there and he married Sally. In 1889, They moved to Aspermont by oxcart. He was a blacksmith and though he was not a doctor, he administered to the sick around the county. He surveyed Stonewall County as was a County Commissioner. He was one of the first Justices of the Peace, as such, he decided to fetch county records from the first County Seat, Old Ranier (which was actually just a ranch headquarters, with a courthouse building on it to the new County Seat in Aspermont, Texas. The only saddle horse made available to him for the ride was barely broken. They snubbed it to a pole, saddled it and he climbed aboard. After he turned loose of the pole, both disappeared in a cloud of dust but in the right direction. He returned later with the records. It was said that James Marion was a versatile, public -spirited man who was popular in his community. As a blacksmith, he would always have had more ready cash than did farmers and ranchers. James Marion and his family lived in town.
