Note: In 1638 William with his wife, two sons and two daughters, came from Hingham, Norfolk County, England, and settled at Hingham, Mass. He married a second wife Elizabeth, widow of Thomas Thaxter, September 1654, and died July 20, 1656. His widow married John Dwight, of Dedham, Jan 30, 1658 and died July 17, 1660. In his will, which is dated June 30, 1656, he mentions only his sons. He was admitted a freeman May 18, 1642. His town lot which he drew in 1638, contained four acres and is on the main street Lower Plain, or Hingham Centre. The house of one of his descendants, Ebed Ripley, now stands upon it. We find that Hingham was simply the point of his departure from England. The records of the Parish Church at Hingham have been carefully examined from 1600, when they commence, to 1638, and the name Ripley does not once occur, nor is any one of the name known in Hingham, or its vicinity. The company of emigrants appears to have been made up at Hingham, and William Ripley must have come from some other place and joined it. We have not been able to discover the place of his residence in England. H W RIPLEY "Beal, John-ex from England to America", pg. 8: William Ripley, son of William and Sicelye (Reve) Ripley, was christened in Wramplingham, Norfolk, England, July 8, 1588. The Wymondham Parish Register lists births from 1614 as follows: Mary, dau. of William Ripley, bapt. 6 Sept. 1616 __, dau. of William Ripley, bapt. 3 Feb. 1618/19 John, son of William Ripley, bapt. 1 Jan 1621/22 Abraham, son of William Ripley, bapt. 9 May 1624 Sarah, dau. of William Ripley, bapt. 28 Oct. 1627 "Genealogy of the Folsom Family 1638-1938 Vol. I" states on pg. 26 that William Ripley's will, dated June 30, 1656: "unto my son John all the land within that field, namely the lot the town gave me lying four acres, and the lot I bought of John Foulsham lying for four acres, and the lot I bought of Thomas Thaxter lying for five acres, and the lot I bought of Stephen Payne lying for four acres. A part of this land still (1931) belongs to descendants of William Ripley. (All four lots of land were granted by the town in 1638 to JF, WR, TT and SP.) BEAL, John-ex from England to America- "Descendants of John Beal (1568 - 1987); Resident of Hingham, England and later Hingham, America"; Written by Mary Naomi Clark. Pg. 7-8: The following records from the Wramplingham Parish Register were copied and translated from the Old English by Mr. Kent of Alexandria, Virginia, a professional genealogist. The Ripley Entries were: "In the 1574 muster, Wm Ruplie (Ripley) was listed in Wramplingham as 'Select Person'. "A marriage license was issued 6 December 1572 to WILLIAM RUPLEY (RIPLEY) of Pulham St. Mary to Margaret Thompson of Tivelshall. This was WILLIAM'S first marriage. His wife died soon. Their marriage li- cense shows 1 April 1574 in Wramplingham. Why the delay from 6 December 1572 to 1574 is a mystery. Margaret Thompson Ripley was buried in Wramplingham on 1 December 1575. There are two Pulham St. Mary Churches--St. Mary The Virgin and St. Mary Magdalene--and both are located in southeast Norfolk County. The Parish Registers began in 1538 and 1539 and both are located in the Churches or Rectories and have not been published. "The History of Hingham, Massachusetts, shows John, SARAH, Abraham and an unidentified daughter accompanying WILLIAM to Hingham, America.
