  Winters(CA) Express page 2 Thursday January 8, 1998 Robert Joseph 'Joe' Chance Mr Joe Chance passed away on Tuesday, Dec 30, 1997 at Courtyard Health Care in Davis. Born Jan 1 1927, in Little Rock, Arkansas, he was 70 years old. Mr Chance served in the US Navy for 6 years. After his stint with the Navy, he went into the US Army and served 16 more years. After his retirement from the military, Joe went back to school and received his teaching credential. He moved to Australia and taught Junior High school for the Australian School District until his retirement in 1986. Joe moved to Winters two years ago, to be near his daughter. He was a life member of the VFW Post #9723 in Okinawa, Japan. He is survived by his wife Barbara Chance of Elverta, California; his children Patricia Havens and her husband Dacey of Winters; and David Chance and wife Candy of Beaverton, Oregon. He is also survived by his brother Neil Chance of Yucca Valley, California; and grandchildren Barbara, Amy, and Katie Havens of Winters; Stephanie and Tyler Chance of Oregon, and a great-grandson, Marquise Vega. The graveside service was held on Friday, Jan 2, 1998, at the Winters Cemetery, Pastor Drew Allen from Santa Clara officiated. The Winters VFW Post #11091 presented the flag Arrangements were under the direction of Smith's Colonial Chapel in Winters.
