Great Bend Daily Tribune 18 Jan 1961 Injured Youth Still in Critical Condition Jimmy Deason, 17-year-old son of Mr and Mrs James N Deason, 1723 12th, is still in critical condition at St Rose Hospital where he has been a patient since he was injured Monday evening in an auto crash. Deason's physician said the youth has not regained consciousness. Deason and a friend, Sam Witte, also 17, were traveling northward out of Pawnee Rock in Witte's car which failed to negotiate a turn from a dirt road onto an east-west blacktop north of Pawnee Rock. The auto went into a ditch and rammed into the embankment. Witte, son of Mr and Mrs Edwin Witte, Rt 4, Great Bend, received a broken right leg and chest injuries. His doctor said Wednesday that his condition is improved. After the accident Witte crawled southward toward Pawnee Rock to summon aid. He was found by two passing motorists who notified authorities. Both Deason and Witte are Great Bend High school seniors.
