James A. Denison appears in the Nicholas County, WV 1850 census (page385) at age 21. This would have put his birth circa 1830. In the 1850 census he is a farmer living with Joseph Hanna (age 55), Betty Ann Hanna (age 18), Joseph D. Hanna (age 16) , Robert Hanna (age 13) and Margaret Hanna (age 11).
James was apparently deceased before the 1860 census. His son's age (John Ellliott Denison) in the Webster County, WV 1860 census was 1 year.
"The mortality schedule of the (Webster County, WV 1860) census shows that James Denison died of consumption in November 1959 at age 30." (Stephenson and Associated Families, March1, 2000, Chapter 1, page 2).
