Notes
a. Note:   !BIRTH: 1 SEP 1825 (Stafford Bible). 1880 census indicates Ohio. A problem exists when assuming that the Bible record is correct. His father, Grant, married Mary Moffett in Morgan County, Indiana, 3 Sep 1827, where Emanuel's siblings were born. The next oldest, Wiley, was born in 1828 in Indiana. Is it possible that there was a previous marriage in Ohio where Emanuel was born? !MARRIAGE: MRIN8 - Emanuel and his sister Mary STAFFORD RIN106 in a double wedding on 10 October 1856, married respectively sister and brother, Mary Anne BREEDLOVE RIN11 and David C. BREEDLOVE RIN112. (Marriage micro film #F-31 Urbana Ohio Library) !DEATH: 5 AUG 1892 (confirmed by headstone and Stafford Bible). He was living in Kingman, Kansas where he raised cattle at time of death. It is family story that he was on a cattle buying trip to Texas when he died. Body returned to Urbana OH for burial. (see SOURCE 1 below) !BURIAL: Stafford lot, Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana, Ohio !RESIDENCES: Neither Emanuel, nor his father Grant show in the 1850 census index for Ohio indicating that they might not yet have come to Ohio. Since the above marriage occurred in 1856, arrival was a little after 1850. This supposition is not supported by the 1880 census which indicated both father and son were born in Ohio. The will of his father, Grant Stafford, dated 27(?) Mar 1852 states that Emanuel was in California at that time. !CENSUS(1): City of Urbana 1870 shows him age 45 retired - his wife - 4 daughters - his wife's mother, Mary - age given as 67. (Stafford Bible gives her birth year as 1800 indicating incorrect census data. Also her mother, Elizabeth HARE died in 1803.) Also a Scott W. STAFFORD, age 17, born in Indi- ana (1853) later identified as brother of Emanuel STAFFORD named Scott RIN107, born 1829, Washington Twp, Morgan County, Indiana. 1870 Champaign County, 2nd Ward, City of Urbana, Pub #M593, Reel 1179 Page Dwell Fam 4 23 23 Stafford, Emanuel 45 M W Retired Farmer Ohio Mary A. 35 F W Keeps House Ohio Scott W. 17 M W Works on farm Ind Mollie 13 F W at school Ohio Sarah J. 11 F W at school Ohio Frank* 9 M W at home Ohio Effie 2 F W at home Ohio Breedlove, Mary 67 F W at home Ohio *Frank was female who later became Mrs. Louis McLain. Breedlove located in the township in 1832 in the southeastern part of the township and lived there until his death in 1861.
