Compiler visited cemetery and was unable to find any record. However, New York City Death Certificate in compiler's folder, RIN 12 (NYC Dept of Health, Reg. #8160) does indicate burial at Holy Name. As #86 on April 1861 to 1865. Charles was listed as prisoner at Cedar Creek. In letter dated 30 March 1903 from Verbena, AL to Colonel W. W. Brandon, Adjutant General, Montgomery, he was listed as captured 19 October 1864 at Belle Grove. (Colonel John MC ANERNEY's memoirs state that he was captured at Battle of South Mountain - held prisoner at Point Lookout.) The 1986 Rand McNally Road Atlas shows none of these locations for Virginia nor surrounding states. Compiler has following information, but has not yet seen a book entitled POINT LOOKOUT PRISON CAMP FOR CONFEDERATES by Edwin W. Beitzell of Abell MD 20606 in St. Mary's County which sells for $10.00 a copy. There is a reference to page 83 and dates Friday October 21 and 28 1864. What these pages contain is not yet known. Atlanta 9 Georgia My dear Mr. Weaver: Records on file in this department, pertaining to the Confederate military service of John McAnerney, show the following information. An original list of the Metropolitan Guards (later Company F, 3rd Alabama Infantry Regiment) published in the Montgomery Adveriser whows John McAnerney, 2nd Corporal. An original roll of Company F, 3rd Alabama Infnatry Regiment, C.S.A., from August 31 to October 31, 1861, shows John McAnerney, 1st Sergeant. He enlisted April 26, 1861, at Montgomery, Alabama, for 12 months. Cap- tain F. Winston Hunter commanded Company F. and Colonel Tennant Lomax commanded the 3rd Alabama Infantry Regi- ment, C.S.A. There is a notation: "Last paid top August 31, 1861, by Major Carr." An original roll of Company F, 3rd Alabama Infnatry Regiment, C.S.A., from December 31, 1861, to February 28, 1862, shows John McAnerney, 1st Sergenat. There is a notation: "Last padi to Dec. 31, 1861, by Capt. J. W. A. Sanford. Under arrest." An original roll of Company F, 3rd Alabama Infantry Regiment, C.S.A., Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A. shows John McAnerney, 1st Lieutenant, promoted to Colonel of the 3rd Virginia Regiment, C.S.A. This roll is dated from April 29, 1861 to April 9, 1865. A list of Field Officers, Regiments, and Battalions in the Confederate States Army from 1861 to 1865, compiled from official records in the U.S. Adjutant General's Office in Washington, shows John McAnerney, Jr., as Lt.
