Notes
a. Note:   BIRTH: Feb 1799 Ross OH - First white child born in area. MARRIAGE: 21 Mar 1825. Since both Paul and his wife were from Ross County, the chances are that the marriage took place there. This compiler has a record from Ross County of Peter Igou's marriage, 12 Sep 1818, and Daniel Igou's, 23 Nov. 1819. DEATH: 11 Mar 1881 Grove City (now Edenburgh) IL CENSUS: 1830 shows him living in Champaign County RESIDENCES: Ross County, Ohio; Wayne Township, Champaign County, Ohio; Grove City, Christian County, Illinois. CENSUS: Listed for the first time in the 1830 census of Champaign County, Ohio. SOURCE(1): HISTORY OF CHAMPAIGN COUNTY pages 540 - 541: "Paul IGOU came to the township (Wayne Township) several years later than his brother, Peter. His life and character differed from that of his brother widely. Paul settled on a piece of land southwest of Mason's mill and adjoining the Richard BALDWIN farm. He was a man greatly given up to making money by hard work, and many good stories are told of him, showing his rude habits. His wife was Ellen West- brook, a native of Ross County. He had twelve children; eleven of them lived to be men and women. The sons were Lewis, Joseph, Marion, Harri- son and Reuben; the daughters were Martha, Mary, Mahala, Susan, Eliza- beth, Melinda and Nancy. Lewis died unmarried about 1856.....Marion married Elizabeth BOLLEY........ CITATION: HISTORY OF CHAMPAIGN COUNTY OHIO by Judge Evan P. MIDDLETON, Volume I, 1917 B. F. BOWEN & Company, Inc. Indianapolis, Indiana, page 984 - in 1858 is listing under heading, "Flouring Mill", Bowers & Igou, corner Russel and Church streets. It is not know whether this is Peter or Paul so is inserted in the notes for both (also possible that it was a son of either!) NOTE(1): His brother Peter showed up in the 1820 census of Champaign County, Ohio, so apparently Paul left Ross County and settled in Wayne Twp., Champaign County between 1820 and 1830. NOTE(2): The order in which children are listed above should not be assumed to be correct. Marion was reportedly born in 1842 which suggests that the above order is definitely not correct. NOTE(3): Lewis Igou, Mary Igou, and Elizah Breedlove are ancestors of this complier. (15) HISTORY OF CHAMPAIGN COUNTY pp540/1 (probably written in 1882 as computed from Paul IGOU's date of birth, 1799, and age of 83 when this was written.) "Paul IGOU came to the township (Wayne Twp, Champaign Co.) several years later than his brother, Peter. His life and character differed from that of his brother widely. Paul IGOU lived in Wayne Township and persued his inclination of hard work and making money until the year 1853, when he moved to Christian County, IL. He still lives, at the age of eighty-three, and is report- ed to be very wealthy. He sustained the character of an honest man, was rude in his manners, a great reader, a fine talker, carelesss in his attire, fond of company and lived well about his house. Though he know how to make money, and how to keep it, he was a man of liber- ality and extensive hospitality.
