Notes
a. Note:   !BIRTH: 30 Apr 1803 Ireland (Calculated from headstone) !MARRIAGE: To Ann (not known) RIN19 at Londonderry, Kilrea, Ireland on 22 March 1829. (Note: This very probably not the correct SLOAN family.) !DEATH and BURIAL: 22 Sep 1858, McDonald Twp, Hardin County, Ohio. Buried Yelverton Cemetery (formerly Sloan Cemetery). Tayl;or Creek Twp, Hardin County, Ohio. Headstone inscrip- tion - d. 9/22/1858 age 55 yrs, 4 mo, 22 da !RESIDENCES: Ireland; Pennsylvania; Champaign Co. OH; McDonald Twp, Hardin County Ohio !CENSUS(1): 1840 Champaign County OH (Index reads: 366 Urbana T) Birth period Male Under 5 - 1 1835 - 1840 5 - 10 - 1 1830 - 1835 20 - 30 - 1 1810 - 1820 30 - 40 - 1 1800 - 1810 Female Under 5 - 2 1835 - 1840 5 - 10 - 1 1830 - 1835 10 - 15 - 1 1825 - 1830 30 - 40 - 1 1800 - 1810 !CENSUS(2): 1850 Hardin County Ohio William Sloan 46 M Farmer Ireland Ann Sloan 44 F Ireland Sarah A Sloan 19 F Ireland Mary E Sloan 17 F Penn John M Sloan 15 M Penn Frances I Sloan 13 F O Margaret H Sloan 11 F O William H Sloan 9 M O Joseph G Sloan 7 M O Also listed - possibly a brother of William(?): Joseph Sloan 39 M Farmer Ireland !SOURCE(S): (1) Marriage data on daughter, Sarah Ann SLOAN RIN9, to Jason WEAVER RIN8 received in July 1990 from the Probate Court of that county (on file in Jason WEAVER file folder). (2) Marriage data from LDS Church micro-fiche for Ireland, batch #941.5 V26 AAM Vol. 2. (probably a different William & Ann SLOAN!) !REMARKS(1): The index of the 1840 Champaign County OH shows a William SLOAN which probably is the same William SLOAN according to the following reasoning. Their 2nd child was born in Penn- sylvania in 1833 and 3rd in 1835 according to the 1850 census and their 4th was born in Ohio in 1837. Therefore they immigrated to Ohio probably about 1836. Not being listed in Hardin County until 1850, the probability of their being in Urbana, Champaign County is great. This is strengthened by the fact that their daughter, Sarah Ann SLOAN, was the second wife of Jason WEAVER of Urbana, Cham- paign County which would indicate that they met in Urbana and were later married after she and her family moved to Hardin County as proven by their marriage certificate. !REMARKS(2): While the William SLOAN and Ann listed in above source (2) is pure speculation, it is based on fairly good reasoning. We know from the 1950 census that Sarah Ann, their first child was born in Ireland in 1830. Thus it may be concluded that the LDS listing was for the right family although not proven. Too, in addition to the date being plausible, it was the only William found who married an Ann! !REMARKS(3): The Champaign County, Ohio, Genealogical Society newsletter, Vol. 8, No. 2, (Spring 1992), on page 33 carried a listing from the POLL BOOK, ST. PARIS PRECINCT JOHNSON TWP 2 NOV 1880 ELISHA BERRY, D W WHITE, CYRUS W REED JUDGES - E D HAWK AND AMOS NORMAN CLERKS: Included in the list were three names of interest to this compiler - Lewis CHAPMAN, possibly a descendant of William CHAPMAN RIN145, sixth generation grandfather of this compiler - Daniel S. HELMICK (possibly an ancestor of Cousin Isabel MCROBERTS RIN348 since her husband, Carlton DOCKERAY RIN349 is buried in the Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana, OH in the HELMICK lot and her name is already on the headstone) - William H. SLOAN, unless the middle initial is a coincident. is possibly a descendant of William SLOAN RIN18, fifth generation grandfather of this compiler and the subject of these notes - John F. STURMS, possibly a descendant of Henry STURM RIN739 (for whom Sturms Creek was named), husband of Elizabeth WEAVER RIN175 - William WEAVER, possibly William H. H. WEAVER RIN407 who would have been about 40 years of age in 1880.
