Note: AFN: R49P-KS Born in that part of Virginia which became Kentucky in 1792. 247. Mary Ette Umphrey b. January 16, 1841, Elmwood, Peoria co., Illinois. Came to Louisa co., Iowa with her family in 1848 at age seven. In Louisa co., on December 23, 1858, she became the 2nd., wife of, David Gregory, b. May 12, 1819, (6th of 11 children) Harrison co., Indiana, son of William Gregory and his 2nd., wife, Lucy Jones. David m. 1st., 1839 in Morgan co., Indiana, Samantha Askew and soon after removed to Louisa co., Iowa, three children were born but all died young and Samantha d. in 1854. David and Maryette residence was at Morning Sun, Iowa. Marietta d. Feb. 25, 1900, and David d. Oct. 25, 1906, both buried Elmwood cemetery, Louisa co., Iowa. David's father William served in the War of 1812 under Gen. Tipton. He moved his family into Morgan co., Indiana where his mother Lucy [b. Kentucky] d. May 17, 1835. William m. 3rd., but was shortly divorced. He m. 4th, in Sept. of 1840, Naomi Jackson a widow, and six children were born to them.
