Born September 21, 1901 in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee
Died October 29, 1987 in Anaheim, California
Her mother was raised in the Wytheville Virginia area.
(Maiden name Repass) Relatives by that name still live there.
Her father (Dr. William Wisdom Newberry) was a well known Alliance pastor and educator.
One day when her father was a pastor in Scranton, Pennsylvania,
Lora entrained in Scranton to go to the Wheaton Academy. On the
same train were her sister Avola and brother David who were
headed for Wheaton College to be students there. Also on the
same train was Ed Coray, leaving Scranton to become a student
at Wheaton College.
Lora was a student at Nyack Missionary Training Institute,
and she became engaged to Carter Holton while at Nyack.
Lora and Carter were advised to wait for marriage until they
had been in China for some time. So he and she went out while
single. Lora lived with the Snyders in Hojo (Linsia).
Later, Lora and Carter were married in Hojo.
