Note: Great Grandfather of Myrtle Dillon
On coming home from the Civil War, he was elected to the Virginia legis-
lature in 1866, and in 1874 to the Virginia Senate. In this office he
distinguished himself as the leader of the "big 4 of Virginia", who
opposed Mahone and preserved Virginia as a Democratic state during
Reconstruction and since.
He wrote a published book of poems of Civil War days, called "Eagle Oak". His home was also called "Eagle Oak".
His picture is on display in the Virginia State Capitol.
