Note: Grandpa was a good man and it was to bad as a child I did not realize that fact. We were always to busy playing to really sit down and listen to all the things he had to pass along. Rick and Alan probably benefited from his wisdom the most, because they lived directly behind them in Cols., on Hamlet St. After I was married and he came to visit, he would talk to my husband Robert who said that he knew more Than all of us put together. He read a lot and tried many things in his lifetime.(Alan is a lot like him) One of which, according to mother was working on oilwells etc., and inventing a certain type of drilling equipment or something of that nature, but never patenting it this losing it to the past, as so many of his ideas must have gone before. It is too bad more folks did not take care of family paperwork. Grandma did not keep things "WILKES"----------- If she did they never surfaced as they passed away one by one..
Grandpa is buried in Athens Cemetery, lot 124 Sec 2 along with Joseph C. Wilkes,Margaret E. Wilkes, Clarence Wilkes, Josephine Wilkes [Dau of Jos. C. and Maggie], Albert Wilkes and his wife Josephine.
