Notes
a. Note:   I have not made a connection of Elias, Sr. with Hiram Ray and Rachel Jeffcoat Ray. There is reason to believe that they may have been related. I obtained the information that I have in 2003 but have not
put it on Ancestry.com as a family tree. I am going to do that now (Dec 2006). Maybe the info that
I have will help someone else. Joyce
I think that Elias Ray, Sr. and Hiram Ray were hiding together and were not enumerated on the 1850 census. Just a thought. I have some more information. I will update these notes as soon as I can.
FROM LDS Website for Elias Still Ray
Born: 24 APR 1832, Barnwell, South Carolina
Death: APR 1906 , Liberty, Georgia (This may have been 6 June 1906)
Burial: Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, , Liberty, Georgia
I read something that said this was now part of Fort Stewart, Ga.
Also, Elias Still Ray's fourth wife Maggie West filed for CW pension in Florida. You can
find those records, and be able to print them from the Florida CW Pension website.
Census info that I have found for Elias were the 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1900 census records.
Census info that I have found for Elias, Jr. were the 1920 and 1930 census records.
I have not checked the 1900 and 1910 for Junior yet. It is too bad that there is not an 1890 census.
There is a Benjamin, age 13 listed on the 1870 census. There is a Benjamin, age 1 listed
on the 1880 census. There is an Elias, age 11 on the 1870 census. I assume this is
Elisha. There is not a George listed on the 1870 census but there is a George, age 18 listed on the 1880 census. There is a Georgia on the 1900 census. There is an Ann, age 2 on the 1880 census but there is not an Ann on the 1900 census. Probably married. I'm not going to list anymore of the children's names. Some I have found with their full names, therefore, I can almost (not all) tell which ones are which.
I have the yellowed copy of the History of "Ray, Elias Still (1832-1906). This is all very interesting. If Elias was related to Hiram Ray, then I do not believe that he was a brother to Hiram. Hiram was born about 1804 and Elias, Sr. born about 1833. Maybe Elias' father was Hiram's brother???
Elias Still Ray, Jr.'s death certificate lists as his mother and father Elias Ray and Susan Morris (Susannah??).
This is a separate family tree database. I have put the children where I thought they should go using the
census records and also the yellowed copy of the History.
There is a death record for Leavy A. Ray, Liberty Co. died 17 Oct 1923. Residence was
in Long Co. Age was 61 yrs old.
There is a death record for Frank K. Ray, Liberty Co. died 24 Jan 1938.
There is a death record for Ritchard D. Ray, Liberty Co. died 25 Feb 1936.
