In a letter, written to his daughter, after their mother's death, CB wrote: ...we were married when she was 13 yrs. 7mo, &14 days old ...was a poor reader & could not write ...sent her to writing school..she didn't practice much...& went back in place of gain ...worked at her trade as a Christian & paid the preacher ...As a wife was faithful ...had no cause of complaint ...on time with her part of the work ...as a financere (sic) was above the average woman ...furnished...good, warm clothing & well-cooked victuals ...considere a good housekeeper & was not ashamed to have callers at any time ...always combed her hair before she go breakfast ...patched her clothes when they needed it ...she was true friend without deception 5. Oliver Elza Drinkwater, her granddaughter's father-in-law, has been quoted as saying, "If ever there was a saint on this earth, it was Catherine Needels."
