Notes
a. Note:   1. Biographical sketch of Carrie (Needels) Shoemaker, by her daughter, Jessie (Shoemaker) Drinkwater - "The opposite page (of this journal about her father) tells much of my mother and leaves out much. As the baby of a well-to-do family she was pampered and highly educated. She had a brilliant quick mind. Those she loved, she loved deeply. Those she disliked she stayed away from. She had a great love for children and flowers and was very religious. I feel most of the appreciation for good music and literarture, she taught me. She was firm but gentle. From the age of 42 she had Parkinson's disease. But not one time did I hear her complain about it.
Our home lost much with her passing. Her great faith and courage was an inspiration to us all. The courage she taught me has stood me in good stead. She was even at a very old age eager to keep up with world affairs, and new inventions, and ready to face life or death as it was. She lived with us for 20 years (until her death in 1957)."
