a. Note:   Ward went to Cornell University to study Horticulture in order to follow in his father's footstep's as did his brother John. While on a blind date, he visited Boston and met his future wife, Patty Prescott. Ward enlisted in the Navy during World War II and was assigned as a gunners mate 1st class, and was an Ensign on the USS Fullam D.D. 474. That means destroyer #474. He was in from 03/42 - 09/45.
 He married Patty in 1942 and was stationed in Newport, R.I for his training at the navy base there before shipping out to sea. His new wife moved to Rahway and lived with her mother in law, Helen Baumann, during the war and had their first child, Peggy, while there.
 After the war, Ward returned to Rahway and took over as president to J.R. Baumann, Inc. Florist until the mid 1970's when he sold the business and retired. He was president for Hazelwood Cemetery for many years, active member to the Second Presbyterian Church of Rahway as elder, trustee, etc. and an avid collector of guns, antiques and loved to travel.
