  1st obit for John Dodds.
John Dodds died at his home in Harrisburg township, May 19, at 7 a. m., from blood poison. The deceased was born Sept, 24, 1808, in Christian county, Kentucky: moved to Cumberland County, Ill., in early manhood: from there to Lee County, Iowa, in 1849, and three years later to the place in Harrisburg township where he lived until his death. In 1833 he was married to Susan Wallace, who died Aug. 28, 1872. To this union were born ten children, nine of whom survive him, one son, Joseph having died when five years of age. The surviving children are Mrs. Nora Sayers, (Mary Elenora Dodds), Mrs. Eliza Tade, (Elizabeth Jane Dodds), Mrs Elen Proper, (Amanda Ellen Dodds), Mrs. Alice Washabaugh, (Alice C. Dodds), Harvey, (William Harvey), James, (James Alonzo), John, (John Franklin), David (David J.), and Charles Dodds. All of these execpting Mrs. Tade and Mrs. Washabaugh were at the funeral. The deceased had been a member of the Harrisburg church since 1865 and a member of the A.F. and A.M. order for many years. The funeral occured on Sunday the 22nd under the auspices of Rev., McCollom and the Masonic order. The funeral sermon was preached at the Harrisburg church, and the Masonic ritual was performed by the Masonic order of Bonaparte at the Bonaparte cemetery where the remains were laid to rest by the side of the wife and mother who died nearly 26 years ago. The deceased was an exemplary christian, a kind father and an excellent citizen and neighbor. John Dodds was married in Illinois and not Iowa as shown on the internet. Note -- I would like to mention here that in no way did it mention having a son Named Samuel Johnson Dodds, nor Joseph Harvey . It did mention a son Joseph Dodds who died at 5 years of age. I have checked census reports for Illinois and Iowa and out of 4 that i found with their names on them, none show a Samuel Johnson Dodds, or Joseph Harvey Dodds. So i am amending my records to remove these people from them.
