Note: Library notes on Mr. David Johnston Dodds dated 1 Dec 1903. Mr. David Johnston Dodds son of John Dodds and Susan Wallace. Born 17 Oct 1843 at Mt. Vernon, Jefferson County, Illinois. He was married to Julie McDow 1 Jun 1865, she died 15 Sep 1882. They were the parents of Jennie May, born 30 Aug 1878 and Rosa J. Dodds, born 8 May 1882. He then married Jennie Humphreys, 18 Sep 1883. They were the parents of 3 children, Frances (Frank), born 3 Sep 1885, Sibyl M. born 11 Feb 1887, James Edwin born 6 Oct 1888. Jennie died on 17 Jan 1935. David was buried by first wife Julie in Vale cemetery. Jennie was buried in Bonaparte Cemetery where Davids Parents are buried.
Obituary for D.J. Dodds
Mr. D.J. Dodds, for many years a resident of Harrisburg township, this county, died at his home in Mt. Pleasant, tuesday am. Dec 1, 1903, a little after midnight, disease cancer of the stomach. He was born at Mt Vernon, Ill., Oct. 17, 1843, making his age a little over 60 years. With his parents he settled in Harrisburg township in 1850, with his wife and children he moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1895. He leaves a wife and five children. Three sisters and four brothers survive. Of the brothers, who reside in this county, John of Harrisburg township and Charles of Farmington. The deceased was held in high respect by all who knew him. He leaves many friends in this county who sincerly mourn his death. He was buried by the side of his first wife Julie McDow Dodds in Vale Cemetary, Van Buren Co., IA.
