Notes
a. Note:   Name Prefix:<NPFX> Mr. Shirley Collins, Edgar W. Miller's grandaughter, remembers himtelling her that his birth certificate said he was born in KansasCity, but he said he was born in Norton, Kansas. He said he alsoremembered going in a covered wagon to California when he was 4 yearsold. A 1900 census taken in Quincy, Kansas in Greenwood County, showsE.W. Miller as living with his brother-in-law, John Steele (age 40)and his sister, Hester (age 23). Also living there was anothersister, Gladis (age 12) born in June of 1887 in Kansas and a brother,John (age 19 born in February of 1881 in Arkansas. Hester was born inKansas in November of 1876. John Steele was listed as a farmer, Gladiswas listed as a servant, and John and Edgar were listed as daylaborers. Edgar was 16 years old at that time. His birth date isOctober 10, 1883. It was apparently shortly after this time that E.W.Miller left Kansas and headed for Alaska. He took a boat from Seattle(most likely) to Skagway, AK. Edgar traversed the Chilkoot Pass fromSkagway, AK to the Yukon River in the Yukon Territory during the early1900s. From there it is assumed that he worked his way down the YukonRiver doing various jobs along the way and working on barges. Heeventually ended up at St. Michaels, AK near the mouth of the YukonRiver. It was here that he met Enorak, Agusta Kameroff .
A copy of Edgar and Agusta's marriage certificate states thefollowing: Edgar W. Miller and Agatha Enorak, both of St. Michael,AK, were married on January 16, 1915. A Russian Orthodox Priest namedN. N. Amnan(sp?) married them with Frank Kameroff and Max Egalok aswitnesses.
From the National Archives 1920 Census Report taken on April 29,1920 at Koyuk comes the following information: Koyuk is on the northend of Norton Bay at the mouth of the Koyuk River, which is on thesoutheast end of the Seward Peninsula, on Alaska's west coast. E.W.Miller worked on and piloted many boats, barges and steamers on boththe Yukon and Kuskowim Rivers.
According to this 1920 census report, he was an engineer on theGus.(Gustavous?) Schooner. At that time, he was 37 years old. Hiswife was listed as Agatha (Agusta?), 27 years old. Also listed wereDora, an adopted or foster daughter, 10 years old, Andrew, 7 1/4years, Frederick, 3 11/12 years and Edward 1 1/4 years. The 1920census states E.W. Miller was born in Kansas and his parents were bornin Missouri, but the 1900 census states his parents were born in Iowa.
