Note: According to a book entitled " The Town of Islip's Early History," by town Historian George Weeks(poor copy?), Elizabeth was the daughter of John Anning of Southampton, Suffolk, NY. *NOTE: I suspect that the Anning family, much like the Mowbrays, came accross to Massachusetts, down through Connecticut, and to Long Island? Conscience Point, Southampton, where the first Colonists from Lynn MA landed in June of 1640?? *The book further states that Elizabeth came to Islip in 1695.(possibly later) *Elizabeth apparently died shortly after(Abt 1701), and John married Ruth Stratton White. Info about Ruth and her first husband James White is found in IGI/LDS data on the WEB. I found in Genealogy Quest, a census of Southampton in 1698, listing a Mistress Anning, but I believe that may have been her sister?? She may have died in chlid birth with Anning or shorly thereafter. *I also found that when John signed his first land deal with the Hopanog Indians in about 1702, Elizabeth didn't witness the papers, but Ruth Mowbray, Steven White(her son from previous marriage), and Anning Mowbray(John's son) did. This helps prove that Elizabeth had probably died between Anning's birth, and this signing.(i.e. 1697 - 1702}. 2/28/2000 Current research, shows that ther are an awful lot of Anning folks from Devon England, so I have changed Elizabeth's place of birth to Devon for now. I found little or no proof of Annings in Edinburgh. They may have gotten married there, and set sail from Scotland, but I don't think Elizabeth was born in Scotland.
