a. Note:   dbetter was born near Kemp,Tex. Oct 13, 1887. He attended school at Talosa, near Kemp, until the family moved west in 1906.Then farther west to Clay County, Hall County, Gray County, and finally to Lynn County near Tahoka where he farmed in the Wells Community.He was inducted into the army at Tahoka on Sept 19, 1917 and trained at Camp Travis, a Wagoner, Co. F. 5th Ammunition Train, A. E. F. He left the U. S. May 27 and arived overseas on June 11, 1918. He was in the St. Mihiel offensive and was kept for the army of occupation and was issued the bronze victory button He was discharged at Camp Travis on Aug. 2, 1919. He was never married. He was a member of the Wells Baptist Church and a director of the Wells Gin Cooperative Assoc. He sold the farm in 1968 and bought a house in Tahoka and moved to it in Dec. 1968. He died Oct. 22, 1969 after a lingering illness (Cancer) and was burried at the Tahoka cemmentary. in the family plot.
