Note: Martinsburg, Berkley Co. Va. He was a taylor. During the pioneer days they came to Des Moines Co. Io, locating in Burlington. Where for some years he was in the retail meat business. Later he changed to farming, a venture that did not turn out successful. Soon after joined a party of gold seekers bound for California. They drove across the prarie with a oxen team, lured on, despite the dangers and hardships, by the wonderful tales they heard of the country and its opportunities. He remained in California for 10 years, at the end of which time he returned to DesMoine Co, Io. Where he made a short stop before he went to Davis Co Io. Barbara came to Jefferson Co, and bought a farm in Roundprarie TWP. During her later years she resided with her son James B. In whose home she passed away in 1903 at the age of 76. Eight Children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Davis, 6 sons and 2 daughters.
