Note: KNOWLES, JAMES b 1757 DEL, came from GA 1811, Indiana Society Pioneer, descendant
Gloria MONTGOMERY COX, 1953 of Poseyville, IN 1 NOTE James Knowles, came from Delaware in 1811, settling on the SW quarter of
2 CONT Sec. 23, T3, R12 (Mounts Station). He had nine children. 1 NOTE In 1795 James and Patience moved their family from Delaware to Georgia by
2 CONT going across Maryland to the Chesapeake Bay. There they boarded a ship to
2 CONT Virginia. Once there they journeyed through the Carolinas to Greene Co.,
2 CONT Georgia where they lived until 1811 when they finally settled in Gibson
2 CONT Co., Indiana. They left Georgia Nov. 1, 1811 and arrived in Indiana Dec.
2 CONT 17, 1811. 2 CONT On Dec. 16, 1811, just before crossing to Indiana from Kentucky, they
2 CONT encountered the earthquake that formed Reel Foot Lake, Tennessee.
1 NOTE James Knowles and Prettyman Marvel were brothers-in-law. 1 NOTE Robert Montgomery attended the same church in Georgia that James Knowles
2 CONT did. Robert went to Indiana first and in 182-13 married Patience Marvel

2 CONT Greene. 2 CONT In the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery James, Sr. received two draws because:
2 CONT he was a white male, married with wife and/or children under 21; a one
2 CONT year resident of Georgia and a US citizen. A draw of "P" meant the
