Newport -- Dennis J. Murphy, 69, of the Town of Fairfield, died Sunday at Herkimer Hospital after a long illness.
He was born in the Town of Norway July 28, 1890, so of James and Mary Ann Kelhi Murphy. He had operated a farm for the past 42 years.
He married Katherine Reardon January 24, 1917, in St. Mary's Church, Middleville.
He was a member of St. John's Church, Newport, and the Middleville Grange.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Vincent Murphy of Newport; two daughters, Mrs. Martin Sterusky [Lucille] of Newport; Miss Eleanor Murphy, at home; 12 grandchildren; a brother, Paul of Cold Brook; three sisters, Mrs. Robert [Mary] Carney of Middleville, Miss Anna Murphy of Herkimer, Mrs. Hanna Finkle of Smithtown, L.I.; several neices and nephews.
The funeral will be at 9:30 Wednesday from his home and at 10 from St. John's Church, Newport, where the Rev. William F. Lenahan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetary.
